MICRO-ABRASIVE LATHES

Comco has integrated the precision of micro-abrasive blasting with an advanced machining platform for superior control quality and repeatability.

Standard Lathe: ideally suited for abrading parts that require precision material removal, cleaning or texturing. A self-contained workstation the Standard Lathe delivers a powerful stream of abrasive in a programmable pattern ensuring a high degree of repeatability and control.           

Advanced Lathe: is designed for the steady processing of precision parts in a production environment. The Advanced Lathe has all the features of the Standard Lathe with the addition of an onboard computer that is network compatible.

 

 


Standard Lathe

 

Comco’s LA 1500 Standard Lathe combines the rotational characteristics of a traditional lathe with the latest in micro-abrasive blasting technology.  The LA1500 is ideally suited for abrading parts that require precision material removal, cleaning or texturing.  This self-contained workstation delivers a powerful stream of abrasive in a programmable pattern, ensuring a high degree of repeatability and control.

Spindle speed, blast speed, number of blast cycles and stroke start and stop positions are easily adjusted using manual controls to ensure consistent results from part to part.  Tooling and nozzle arrays are customized to fit the user’s application.  Our Engineering Department is available to provide a complete late setup and qualification.

Advanced Lathe

Comco’s Advanced Lathe provides precision micro-abrasive blasting for demanding production environments.  The LA3200 is ideal for stent surface conditioning, detailed engraving and other applications that require a high degree of accuracy and repeatability.

The Advanced Lathe works by propelling abrasive air out of up to five small nozzles aimed at a part rotating on a spindle.  The nozzles are mounted on a blast head that moves on the X- and Z-axes.  This movement is fully coordinated with the spindle rotation enabling the system to trace complex shapes, directing the abrasive stream with pinpoint accuracy.  Designed for both engineering development projects and full-scale production operations, the Advanced Lathe provides superior control, quality and repeatability in micro-abrasive blasting.

Custom Flex Circuit Abrader

We had an unusual request for blasting the back of flex circuits to improve the laser solderability of the parts. The backing was too reflective and meant that the laser welds were not always consistent. A custom machine was built to create a uniform area over the back of the area that is soldered. This means that the area would not reflect the laser and improve the efficiency of the weld.
