Densitometers are used for measuring colour saturation and calibrating printing equipment. They are used for making adjustments so outputs are consistent with the colours desired in the finished printed.
A densitometer is a device that measures the the optical density (darkness) of a photographic or semitransparent material or of a reflective surface. The densitometer works by pointing a light source aimed at a photoelectric cell. It determines the density of a ink or printed sample placed between the light source and the photoelectric cell and from differences in the readings it calculated the optical density value.
